I am looking to buy an older house that I could remodel. I found one that was built in 1934 and I love it… but, it needs A LOT of work - new kitchen, bathrooms, everything. It is an estate sale in Massachusetts and it literally looks like it hasn’t been touched in forever. The lead paint status is "unknown", meaning they didn’t check, so it probably it leaded.

Was lead paint used everywhere in homes? Walls, ceilings, etc? If a wall has wallpaper on it, is that sufficient covering? What are my options to make any lead paint that I find non-hazardous? What are the costs?

Also, in 1934 was asbestos used at all? Should I get my home inspected for that as well?

Is it safe to do the remodel "as is" or would all paint need to be taken care of first?

I recently attended a class on lead paint and the safe removal of it. The class was a one day class and was well worth going.

Applications for Section 8 or Public Housing are always free at your local housing authority if they are accepting applications. Section8programs.com has no affiliation with HUD, the government or your local housing authority. Our mission is to help those that are low income find applications online for various government rental assistance programs nation wide. Landlords must have their property inspected by a division of their local PHA in order to rent to a Section 8 tenant and accept the Section 8 housing voucher. The landlord will prepare their own lease that will be no less than for one year.

The Section 8 Consolidation Program combines low-income grants with subsidized housing resources for a low income family or individual. This information and application is provided to all applicants in our Section 8 and Subsidized Housing Online Packet. The Section 8 Consolidation Program is a privately funded grant program and is not affiliated with the government, HUD or your local PHA. The grants awarded are small assistance grants intended to help with daily expenses like food or bills.

I was using four beautiful, black rims that were very unique on my 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. On Wednesday last week, I took the rims off the car and put on a new set for the winter season. Since I live in a ridiculously safe town, I put the four black rims in the backyard. I run a home garage and keep a lot of car parts outside and I never have had a problem in 15 years. I went to New York from Massachusetts last weekend to help my brother move. When I came back, I noticed the four black rims where gone - they had been stolen. I’m an active member of a car club in Massachusetts and told them of my problem, and asked them to look out. Within an hour, I was getting private messages, all redirecting to one website - and there it was, 4 rims for sale - and exactly mine. I know they’re mine. They have the same logo on the hub cap that I painted myself. It’s impossible that they’re not my rims, stolen. Although, the seller is selling them for 1/3 of their actual value, ha ha. I first contacted my friend, who owns the website in question. He got me the user’s cell phone number, the town they live in, and a picture of him, and his job. Basically, he’s a landscaper, he saw my rims on my EVO and liked them, noticed I put on snow tires, and then stole them. He lives about twenty minutes away. I contacted the police. They wouldn’t help, longer story. I’ve had four of my friends contact the user in an attempt to buy the rims and then see where that takes them, and no response yet. What should I do now?

Have your friend buy them. Once he gets them, get any and every kind of documentation (pictures help a lot especially with that custom decal) that the rims your friend received are in fact your rims. Take pictures of the deal going down and everything. Return to the cops with all that evidence and they will have pretty much no choice but to pursue your complaint. If for some reason they still refuse then go to the media.

Hello, I have a condo that was my primary residence that I rented out when I got married and then purchased my home with my now wife. We live in Massachusetts with 4 kids. My Condo was an interest only arm loan with no equity, I lost several tenants, lost my job and now have a job making much less. I had to stop paying on the condo when I lost my job and I tried to short sale it with no success. It is schedule for a foreclosure auction. If the bank comes up with a deficiency judgement, how is that calculated? I owe $290k. If they sell it for only $150k, is the deficiency judgement for $140K? I will not be able to pay that back. I will end up having to file chapter 13 bankruptcy, I don’t think I qualify for chapter 7. this condo is not in my wife’s name, but will they take her income into consideration if I file bankruptcy? If so, it will have to be chapter 13 bankruptcy. If I file chapter 13, how do they determine what amount I pay back? I can not pay $140k, how much of that will they make me pay? We have four kids and our primary home to pay for. Help me to understand this all. Thank you.
